FAQ

1. How do I order the correct boot size?

Our product pages contain sizing guidelines that pertain to that specific military or tactical boot model.

We base our sizing guidelines on athletic shoe sizes, not boot sizes. This is because of the large variation of sizing between boot manufacturers.

The best way to get your athletic shoe size is to get measured using a Brannock measuring device, located in most brick and mortar shoe stores.

3. How do I break in my boots?

The break-in process can take a few days up to a couple of weeks, depending on the material and stiffness of the boots. We recommend that you wear your boots for a few hours at a time, ideally at home, and gradually increase the time. Give your boots a rest between wears, and put on a different pair of shoes for the rest of the day if you start to develop hot spots or blisters.

For proper break in and comfort in the long-term, we recommend you wear wool boot socks, not cotton athletic socks. Wool boot socks are thicker then regular socks and will reduce friction on your feet that leads to hot spots and blisters.

4. How do I clean my boots?

SUEDE LEATHER BOOTS:

We recommend that you use a suede brush to remove dirt and restore the color and texture of your boots. Brush in straight motions but in different directions. Refrain from using water or chemical cleaners as they may discolor the suede.

SMOOTH LEATHER BOOTS:

We recommend you use a shoe shine kit which includes a shoe polish applicator, shoe shine brush, colored shoe polish, and polishing cloth. First, use a damp cloth wipe off excess dirt and/or moisture. Next, apply shoe polish to all leather areas using the shoe polish applicator or brush. Leave to dry for 5-10 minutes. Then use a shoe shine brush to lightly wipe away the layer of polish on all leather areas. For further polishing of the toe and heel, a dry polishing cloth can be used to buff these areas for additional gloss.

5. Are Belleville boots re-solable?

Specific Belleville Boot models are re-soleable. Generally, all Belleville models that are Berry Compliant and made in the USA are made using the direct-attach construction and can be resoled. Please reach out to us for information on specific models so we can confirm with the manufacturer.

6. How can I waterproof my boots?

NOTE: this only applies to military boots without factory Gore-Tex or waterproofing liners.

For waterproofing your boots, we recommend 3M waterproofing spray. First, make sure your boots are clean and completely dry before applying any waterproofing treatment. Next, find a clean and debris-free, outdoor area with adequate ventilation to perform the treatment. We recommend using a respirator or shop mask when spraying chemicals. Spray the waterproofing spray evenly, in a back and forth motion, paying particular attention to seams and stitching. We recommend 2-3 light coats and allow a 10-20 minute drying time between coats. After applying the waterproofing treatment, you may wipe away any excess wet areas with a clean cloth to remove any excess product.
